Personal Preparedness
Personal preparedness has become a primary focus for the MediSys Health Network. The ability to enable staff and the surrounding community to be more capable of dealing with an emergency or hazard is a source of pride that this organization is pleased to be a part of.
The month of September is recognized throughout the country as National Preparedness Month. During this time the Emergency Management Staff sends out a weekly newsletter with different forms of information on situational awareness and preparedness, including but not limited to how to create and emergency plan, how to sign up for your local news bulletins, and even how to pack a "go-bag". Items suggested to keep on hand are displayed such as a self powered flash light with a built in radio and a first aid kit with basic supplies. Pamphlets and self help guides are available along with check lists to ensure all materials are collected. Special considerations are addressed such as the needs of the elderly, small children and pets. Information on simple activities that promote safety and communication are distributed like having emergency contact numbers (ICE) stored in cell phones and wallet cards with personal and family medical information documented. Coloring books and activity books created by FEMA are given out to help kids of all ages learn the importance of being prepared.
This information has been presented to individual departments and community groups as part of the networks outreach activities when requested by network leadership and community organizations.
